I remember the entire time I began questioning the "truth" having doubts in my mind. "What if it really is the truth? I could be SOL at armageddeon!". Thank God those irrational fears eventually went away.

My wife FINALLY quits Witnessing and Meetings admits I was right!!!
by Witness 007 infor afew years a have been fading and telling my wife how i feel about such false doctrines as blood transfusions, 607 b.c.e date etc.
at first she would say "don't talk to me about discouraging things!!
" since i haven't been attending meetings or field service for over 2 years she has slowly quit 1. witnessing, then 2. theocratic school which she hated anyway but was forced to do.

When people are given the freedom to think for themselves they will eventually come around. After being married to me I saw some big changes in my wife. Slowly she realized that she did not have to bend to all of the pressures from her family and the JW community. I provided a place where she could be herself. Such an open atmosphere allowed for her to begin to move outside of the JW bonds.

Have JW's changed their tactics for talking with atheists?
by SickofLies ini attended a meeting with mash (mcmaster association for secular humanists) the other day where we had an excellent guest speaker, a professor from the university of toronto who founded and runs talkorigins website.
for those that would like to see the lecture titled "evolution a theory and a fact" i will be posting it on-line in the next day or two and will post the link in this thread.. back to my question, after the speech when we took the speaker out for drinks we were all sharing experiences talking about how talkorigins helped us and the issue of jw's came up, people there were telling me that when jw's come to their door now if they state they are an atheists or don't believe in the bible they simply stop the conversation and go away.. is this an official change in tactics for the jw's?
it would be great if it were, i can think of only one reason for not wanting to try and preach to the new atheists out there, that being that people who do are getting persuaded by their arguments and leaving the church.. has anyone else heard anything like this?.

The answer is simple.
Jehovah's Witnesses are really only interested in converting people who already hold some sort of Christian belief. Anything less that a person who has already been involved with Christianity and the JWs arguments loose their power. -

As dawg said, we are interested in truth.
Just because a religious system repeatedly calls itself the truth does not make it so.
It is the job on anybody searching for truth to examine everything, leave no stone unturned. Dogmatic answers from authorities are not acceptable (i'm sure you don't believe everything the Catholic Church says, even though it's claimed authority states that you should!).
There is one rule. That we examine the Watchtower organization with the same kind of skepticism that the JWs encourage others to look at their own faith.
We check to see if they are making accurate claims about history, science, and archeology. We see if what they claim to have happened in their history as a religion actually happened or not.
IN other words, we look at what the Watchtower claims and see if it is really true!
Don't just accept that something is the truth because somebody told you so. Test what they teach you. How else could you ever know if it really is what it claims to be? -

IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM LAWRENCE HUGHES
by SHUNNED FATHER inas you may have heard, the court of appeal has overturned three previous court decisions in my favour.
the lawsuit has been given the green light and is basically has remained intact almost exactly the way it started.
what are the odds of that happening?

In all, I wish you luck, but I will not be supporting it. If you're asking for a charitable donation, then I would expect some accountability and administration. What I see here is a request for a handout with nothing but your word that it will be used properly. In my time on the internet, these sorts of requests have always ended badly.
I agree.

To all those who think the WT uses deliberate "subliminal" images...
by marmot in(okay, i know i said i'd be taking a break from jwd, and i will, but i just remembered something that i felt necessary to post here because it was bugging me) .
there are some of you out there who believe the governing body meticulously crafts subliminal images that are hidden throughout the society's literature.
you say that it is impossible for these to be mere accidents or just the work of sloppy artists because there is so much painstaking review and every image must be approved by the gb before being published.

I second Leolaia's comment about bored Watchtower artists. I know I would be doing anything to make drawing such lame pictures more interesting if I had to do it.

being an outsider as opposed to being an insider
by drew sagan inthere have been a few posts lately on the board where people are giving their experiences in talking with jws they meet in day to day life.
this got me thinking of something i've never seen a post about on this board.
because of a number of different factors it seems that jws have a very unbalanced approach in the way they deal with criticism.

There have been a few posts lately on the board where people are giving their experiences in talking with JWs they meet in day to day life. This got me thinking of something I've never seen a post about on this board.
Because of a number of different factors it seems that JWs have a very unbalanced approach in the way they deal with criticism.
When the criticism is coming from a person outside of the group, the JW can sometimes show much more patience than they ever would with a fellow JW. Because they desire to give the best "witness" possible their guard is down. The JW may even give that person a little respect! This goes for ex-jws who do not reveal their past to a JW trying to talk with them. In fact, ex-jws (or well educated people in the subject) who know how to bring up the real hard hitting questions can sometimes really draw out the JW to realize he is clueless in regards to what he believes.
The opposite however is true when a JW criticizes the Watchtower in some form to another JW. Typically in these discussions the JW will really use some of the dirtiest and cheapest arguments in order to simply get their way. Sometimes even using blackmale (i.e. "i'll tell the elders on you if you don't stop this).
What do you think? -

anti-witnessing
by Hortensia insince my first foray into anti-witnessing, admittedly not much of an effort, i have been looking for another chance but the witnesses haven't been out where i could spot them.
today, however, a couple of women were in front of the groc.
store with a table with mags laid out on it.
